WATCH: Alabama quarterback Bryce Young flashes amazing basketball skills
Alabama quarterback and 2021 Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young likes to throw some cross-training into his routine. A video posted on Twitter recently shows the Crimson Tide star playing some hoops – and draining shots from behind the arc.
It’s probably not Nick Saban’s favorite activity for his starting quarterback but Young definitely looks comfortable on the court. He played basketball in his youth before narrowing his focus down to football.
According to one of his former trainers, Young could’ve gone to college on a basketball scholarship if he continued with the game.
“He was athletic, his handle was really good, his shot was good, his decision making was good, he could guard. He was a really good all-around point guard,” trainer Mike Teller told AL.com. “I’ve been doing this for going on 19 years, and in my opinion, there is no doubt he would have been a Division I point guard.”
Young and the Crimson Tide return to the practice field for spring ball on March 21. It’s the beginning of the quarterback’s attempt at a back-to-back run at the Heisman. He currently leads the Vegas odds. The mini-season culminates in the A-Day spring game on April 16.

Bryce Young adds to list of NIL sponsors
BMW of Tuscaloosa has a new poster star. Bryce Young announced a partnership with the dealership last week on his Instagram story and circulated it throughout social media.
This is just another deal amid a litany of others Young has been able to haul in as the nation’s football top program’s quarterback. Young currently sits at No. 4 overall in On3’s NIL100 and No. 1 in college football in terms of NIL deal valuation.
The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
With over 250,000 social media followers across all platforms, Young is estimated at $1.9 million as of March 13, 2021. He’s improved his valuation by over $60,000 in the last nine weeks.
On3’s Barkley Truax contributed to this report.
