Alabama has released a hype video ahead of Saturday’s top-15 showdown with the Florida Gators. What does it look like?

Check out the video below from Alabama’s Twitter page.

In the video, John Metchie III watches old highlights of 2020 Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith and other Alabama legends like Jerry Jeudy and Jaylen Waddle.

In the video, Metchie III talks about how he’s heard everyone say, “you have big shoes to fill,” which is something nearly every player on the Alabama roster has heard in Nick Saban’s tenure in Tuscaloosa.

He’s simply walking to the drum beat of his beloved head coach, Nick Saban, after he says, “I’m competing with me.”

Saban tunes out external noise at Alabama as much as possible

It’s a theme of one of the many sayings Saban has constantly hammered home over the years to his players. He preaches to his team that they need to tune out external factors and external noise that don’t have an impact on the outcome or development as a player.

If a player is convinced they are competing against all of the former Alabama legends that preceded them, it could drive them nuts. Once a player starts allowing external factors to influence them, bad things happen.

Saban constantly preaches with an incredible amount of clarity to his football team. Few leaders in college football speak with the crystal-clear vision of how they want their football team to play and how they want them to get there quite like the Alabama head coach does.

It’s a big part of why he’s such an exceptional leader and why Alabama has achieved such incredible success under his tenure. It doesn’t hurt having the best players in the nation, either.

But for one of his leaders to drive home the message of “I’m competing with me,” is a true Sabanism. Metchie III realizes that he can’t worry about what DeVonta Smith did a year ago (all he did was win the Heisman Trophy) or what Jerry Jeudy did (he carved up defenders with some unbelievable routes at Alabama).

To be fair, Metchie III has already made a name for himself by delivering one of the most bone rattling hits of the 2020 college football season in the SEC Championship Game.

Watch below as he delivers a jarring hit on Trey Dean III of Florida.

The clip is actually played in the hype video Alabama released this week. It was a critical, game-changing hit by Metchie III. Alabama went on to win the game 52-46.

In 2020, Metchie III stepped up big time once Jaylen Waddle went down with his ankle injury. He hauled in 55 catches for 916 yards and six receiving touchdowns.

Top-ranked Alabama travels to Florida on Saturday to take on the No. 11 Gators. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. EST and the game will be televised on CBS.
