Bryce Young has put together a standout season for Alabama, and that’s the reason why he’s a finalist for the prestigious Heisman Trophy. Having thrown for 4,322 yards and 43 touchdowns compared to just four interceptions, Young has been at the top of his game all year long and has led Alabama back to the College Football Playoff as the No. 1 ranked team.

A former five-star recruit in the On3 Consensus, Young – a Pasadena, California native – has made the most of his first season as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback after backing up Mac Jones in 2020, and his play has been praised by many people.

Of those people is Colin Cowherd, host of The Herd with Colin Cowherd on FOX Sports Radio. The on-air sports personality spoke in length about Young on Tuesday’s show, pointing out all the positives of his game with only one small downfall, and comparing him to one of the NFL’s great quarterbacks.

“Bryce is a very unique talent,” Cowherd said.” [ESPN’s Dan] Orlovsky compared him to Aaron Rodgers, and they are both very light on their feet, the ball comes flying out of their hands. He’s a very unique athlete and I love watching him play. He’s fluid, great feet, super quick, nice arm, quick release … there’s nothing I don’t like about him – except he’s a little thin. He’s six-feet tall, about 195 and if you’re going to be a smaller quarterback, I’d prefer you be Jalen Hurts or Russell Wilson or Kyler Murray – you’re thick.

“He’s a little thin, but I’ve got to be careful about being too judgmental on that. I think he’s a better athlete than Tua … Tua’s on a winning streak. I think he’s such an incredibly special athlete. I think the Aaron Rodgers comparison – there’s something there. The way he gets rid of the ball and sees the field … some of the stuff is innate.”

Nick Saban goes in-depth on Bryce Young

Although there were times during the regular season when Alabama didn’t play its best, it has taken care of business – and a big reason for that is because of the way quarterback Bryce Young has performed throughout the campaign.

During Sunday’s media availability for Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban and Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell prior to the Alabama-Cincinnati matchup in the Cotton Bowl semifinal on Dec. 31, Saban spoke highly of the way Young has played this year.

“Bryce has played well for us all year long,” Saban said. “I think he’s made some incredible plays down the stretch here in our last couple games that certainly enhanced our chances of being successful in the game. I do think in this last game the players around him played a lot better, which gave him a much better opportunity.”
