WATCH: John Metchie cheered as he heads to locker room with injury
After Alabama wide receiver John Metchie went down with a leg injury in the second quarter of the SEC Championship Game, he went to the locker room. But he didn’t get very far without hearing loud support from the Crimson Tide faithful.
“Metchie! Metchie! Metchie!” the fans cheered as one of their best wide receivers slowly made his way off the field with the training staff.
Late in the second quarter, Metchie suffered a non-contact injury in his left knee. While running a route, he turned back to face his quarterback, grabbed his left side, and went down. He remained on the ground for a few minutes while the staff looked at the lower body injury.
He slowly walked off the field with the help of the Alabama staff. The wideout was seen squatting on the sideline with his helmet on shortly thereafter.
Metchie has six receptions, 97 yards and a touchdown catch on the day. He eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the season last weekend against Auburn.

Alabama leads Georgia 24-17 at halftime behind quarterback Bryce Young. Young is shredding the nation’s top defense with 286 yards and three total touchdowns in the first half. That number breaks a record for passing yardage in the first half of an SEC Championship game, topping Auburn’s Cam Newton’s record by five yards.
The Crimson Tide love Atlanta
Alabama has had immense luck when playing in Atlanta. They are 6-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and they are 16-1 under Nick Saban between Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the old Georgia Dome. Their most recent win at the stadium was their opening game this season, a 44-13 win over Miami in September.
Georgia was a 6.5-point favorite in this year’s SEC title game, making the contest the first time since 2015 Alabama has been an underdog. That 2015 game featured the Bulldogs as well, and Alabama won 38-10.
