Will Anderson explores growing up a Georgia fan, his recruitment to Alabama
Will Anderson is a star for the Alabama defense. However, Anderson wasn’t always the biggest fan of the Crimson Tide — the linebacker grew up a fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Prior to their showdown this Saturday, Anderson spoke about growing up a Georgia fan during Monday’s SEC Championship teleconference.
“Yeah, I did grow up a Georgia fan,” stated Anderson. I got recruited by them a little bit. I didn’t get too much attention from them, but it all worked out well. I’m here at Alabama, and I love it here. It’s been great so far.”
Georgia would love to have Anderson on their vaunted defense now. However, they Alabama was the program that continually stood out to the star defenders.
Continuing, Anderson elaborated on what made the Crimson Tide the only choice for him.
“What stood out to Alabama is the group of men that’s here and in this facility,” stated Anderson. “In high school I told myself I wanted to be surrounded by people who have the same mentality as me, same expectation, same standard.
“When you come to a place like Alabama, everyone in the locker room has the same expectation for themselves, the same mentality, and the competitiveness here.”
Will Anderson would’ve likely been a star wherever he chose to play his college football. However, Anderson and the Crimson Tide are a match made in heaven.

Anderson: ‘It’s a different type of mindset when you come here to Alabama.’
While everyone knows playing for Nick Saban is unlike anything else in the sport, not all players take to his coaching style. That doesn’t apply to Will Anderson — he’s adopted the Alabama mindset completely.
“To be at Alabama, you have to be a very good competitor. You have to be able to compete every day even when you don’t feel like competing,” stated Anderson. “So it’s a different type of mindset when you come here to Alabama.
“I think that was the biggest thing for me when I was getting recruited. That’s why I wanted to come here is because of the mindset and because of the men who were going to be here to help me along the way and help me get to where I want to be at.”
Will Anderson is a star. The linebacker epitomizes what it means to be an Alabama football player. Everything Anderson is will be on full display as he attempts to lead the Crimson Tide to an SEC Championship victory.
