The war of words between Alabama’s Nick Saban and Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher stole headlines earlier this summer. The two went back and forth against each other with the use of NIL on recruiting. In the end, it fizzled and is set to be settled come October 8th when their teams meet up in Tuscaloosa. For Crimson Tide edge Will Anderson, he understands that the gauntlet got thrown.

Anderson discussed their matchup with the Aggies later this year during press at SEC Media Days in Atlanta. He says they understand who the opponent is but will go into it how they do every game.

“We approach every game the same. We know the history behind that game (and) we know what to expect, the type of game it’s going to be,” said Anderson. “We’re just gonna go out there and play Alabama football.”

The Tide and Aggies have met up 10 times since A&M joined the SEC in 2012. Alabama has dominated the series with an 8-2 record and an average margin of victory of 22.5 points. While Fisher is just 1-3 during his tenure, he owns the most recent win from last season. Anderson’s six tackles on the night weren’t enough as a Seth Small 28-yard field goal at Kyle Field gave Alabama a 41-38 loss. It was their only one in the regular season.

While both sides could talk themselves in circles, Anderson says it won’t get settled until the pads are on. He says both sides can duke it out in Denny Bryant Stadium and end the conversation on their terms for the forseeable future.

“We note it. We don’t have to speak on it too much (because) we see what’s going on. When the pads get on and the game gets going, we’ll address it then.”
