Plenty of people have made a lot of this weekend’s game between Alabama and Texas A&M. It goes all the way back to the Aggie’s win over the Crimson Tide last season. Then, the war of words between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher only added more fuel to the fire. While the environment should be hostile in Tuscaloosa this weekend, Will Anderson says he’s not focused on the outside noise surrounding this game.

Anderson talked about the external hype around Saturday’s matchup with A&M during media on Monday. He said he respects the Aggies as a team but that there’s no reason for him to have them circled over any other team on their schedule.

“We try to approach each game the same. No game is bigger than another one,” said Anderson. “Texas A&M is up next on the schedule; so now we will be talking about this game. Texas A&M has a really good team, really good offensive line, good quarterback. It’s gonna be a great challenge for us.”

Anderson say he is focused on himself rather than the outer focus on the game overall. He’s only there to play football and do as Coach Saban instructs. Beyond that, all the back and forth between the two programs means nothing to him.

“All I do is come here to play football and do what my coach tells me to do. I come here to play football. I don’t come here to write tweets, to go back and forth on the thing,” Anderson said. “People may try to make it a big thing but, at the end of the day, I have a scholarship to play football. Coach brought me here to play football. He brought us all here to play football and that’s our job. To go out there and make sure that we’re being our best versions of ourselves on the field and make sure that we play up to the Alabama standard.”

The key to winning this weekend will be to focus on the field. A lot of attention will be on this matchup for reasons that don’t involve the team’s play between the lines. Based on Anderson’s words, that shouldn’t be too tough for him on Saturday night.
