Alabama has had a long history of poor special teams play under Nick Saban. That’s largely changed with Will Reichard, who has brought consistency to the position.
Something very few people realize is that Will Reichard had the opportunity to meet Michael Phelps. Of course, Phelps is best known for his time in the Olympics. The most decorated Olympian in history, Phelps has won 28 medals, including 23 gold medals in his life. In 2008, he won eight gold medals in the eight events he competed in, still the most of any athlete in a single Olympic Games
Will Reichard feels that he learned a lot from his meeting with Michael Phelps. In particular, he learned how to be a relentless competitor from Phelps.

“I think it was really, really cool,” Will Reichard said. “You’re talking about someone who is the greatest Olympian athlete ever. I grew up watching the Olympics, grew up watching him compete.”
“Just the competitor that he was, he was relentless. He was going to keep working until he was the best of the best and he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. I think that resonated with me and a lot of my teammates that although camp is hard and we go through a lot of hard stuff, if you really want to be the best you gotta keep pushing. How bad do you really want it? That’s kinda what I took from it.”
