Iowa State transfer quarterback JJ Kohl commits to Appalachian State

Iowa State Cyclones transfer quarterback JJ Kohl is taking his talents to Appalachian State, committing to join the Mountaineers via the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned.

Kohl played high school football at Ankeny (Ankeny, IA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 155 overall recruit and the No. 11 quarterback in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

As for the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, Kohl was the No. 36 quarterback available, as the No. 394 player overall available.

He saw playing time in 2023 with the Cyclones. Kohl passed for 23 yards and completed 9-of-11 pass attempts. He did not throw a touchdown or interception during his playing time, but he did rush for 32 yards on six attempts.

Meanwhile, former Arkansas linebacker Brooks Yurachek is also committing to Appalachian State, he announced via X. Yurachek, the son of Razorbacks athletic director Hunter Yurachek, has three years of eligibility remaining.

Yurachek spent one season at Wake Forest before transferring to Arkansas this past season. He played in two total games for the Razorbacks and did not record any stats. 

Brooks Yurachek was a three-star player according to On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings. He’ll be hoping to reach his true potential with the Mountaineers moving forward.
