Transfer QB AJ Swann commits to Appalachian State
QB AJ Swann has committed to Appalachian State out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. On3’s Hayes Fawcett shared the news of Swann’s commitment to the Mountaineers on Friday.
With that, Swann will have a pair of seasons of eligibility left to use in Boone. Swann had spent all three of his prior collegiate seasons in the SEC with two at Vanderbilt followed by a lone one this past fall at LSU.
While with the Commodores and Tigers, Swann appeared in 17 games, including a dozen starts all while with Vandy. He is 224-398 (56.3%) when passing with both for 2,741 yards, 22 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Essentially all of that production came while in Music City alongside Mike Wright and Ken Seals as he was a reserve behind Garrett Nussmeier this year in Baton Rouge.
Swann was the No. 25 QB and the No. 255 transfer last offseason when he transferred. He is now the No. 84 QB and at No. 1,047 overall in On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players.

Swann is now the fourth transfer addition during this cycle for App State ahead of their first season under Dowell Loggains. All four are formerly of the Southeastern Conference with Swann along with RB Khalifa Keith (Tennessee), WR Davion Dozier (Arkansas), and LB Brooks Yurachek (Arkansas). That’s in turn after 18 players have left the program this offseason with a third of those having already committed elsewhere.
