2024 ATH Dylan Tapley decommits from Arizona State
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain three-star athlete Dylan Tapley has decommitted from Arizona State, he announced on Thursday.
He was pledged to the Sun Devils since April 15, when he chose them over Arizona, Kansas State and Oregon.
“I would like to thank Coach Dillingham and Coach Ward for the unbelievable opportunity to further my education and football career at ASU. I’d also like to thank entire ASU staff and fans for all of the constant love and support they’ve shown me in the last year, I wish them nothing but the best and believe they will accomplish big things. After going through my senior year, talking with my family and coaches, and seeing my self on the offensive side of the ball for my future, I have decided to decommit from Arizona State University,” Tapley wrote.
Tapley is the No. 581 overall prospect and No. 22 athlete in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 12 player in Arizona.
Tapley does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Sun Devils outside of top 50 in 2024 recruiting class rankings
The loss of Tapley leaves Arizona State with just 16 commitments and a recruiting class that ranks just No. 55 in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
The class features zero blue-chip pledges and also ranks just 11th in the Big 12 out of 16 programs. The top of Kenny Dillingham’s class is compiled of recruits from the Lone Star State, as the five highest-ranked pledges are all Texans.
Headlining the class is Aledo three-star cornerback Chris Johnson, the lone top-500 prospect in the class as of Nov. 9. He’s the No. 429 prospect and No. 39 CB in the cycle. Johnson is one of three top-60 corners in the ASU class, alongside Lewisville (Texas) three-star Tony-Louis Nkuba and Dickinson (Texas) three-star Rodney Bimage.
Other top commitments in the class for ASU include: Mesquite (Texas) North three-star wide receiver Elijah Baesa, Katy (Texas) Jordan three-star WR Zechariah Sample and Tualatin (Ore.) three-star tight end Jayden Fortier.
