2024 LB Sire Gaines decommits from Arizona State
Perris (Calif.) Orange Vista three-star linebacker Sire Gaines has decommitted from Arizona State, he announced on Sunday night.
He was pledged to the Sun Devils since July 15. He also held offers from the likes of Arizona, Washington, Colorado and Boise State.
Gaines is the No. 802 overall prospect and No. 71 LB in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 58 player in California.
“First and foremost I would like to thank God for all my blessings and opportunities! I’ll would also like to thank Coach Cooper and the Arizona State coaching staff for allowing me to be apart of the Sun Devil Family! With this being said I’m decommitting from Arizona State University and reopening my recruiting 100%. It was a blessing representing Arizona State and building a GREAT relationship with Coach Cooper! This decision was difficult to make. All God Plans. God is great,” Gaines wrote.
Gaines does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Sun Devils’ 2024 class outside of Top 50 in On3 Rankings
Following the decommitment of Gaines, Arizona State now has just 15 commits in its 2024 recruiting class, which ranks 55th in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
The class features zero blue-chip pledges and also ranks just 11th in the Big 12 out of 16 programs. The top of Kenny Dillingham’s class is compiled of recruits from the Lone Star State, as the five highest-ranked pledges are all Texans.
Headlining the class is Aledo three-star cornerback Chris Johnson. He’s the No. 518 prospect and No. 51 CB in the cycle. Johnson is one of three top-60 corners in the ASU class, alongside Lewisville (Texas) three-star Tony-Louis Nkuba and Dickinson (Texas) three-star Rodney Bimage.
Other top commitments in the class for ASU include: Mesquite (Texas) North three-star wide receiver Elijah Baesa, Katy (Texas) Jordan three-star WR Zechariah Sample, Tualatin (Ore.) three-star tight end Jayden Fortier, Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral three-star WR Plas Johnson and Saint Martinville (La.) Senior three-star athlete Cullen Charles.
