Arizona State, Bobby Hurley land 4-star forward Akil Watson
Roselle (N.J.) Catholic four-star recruit Akil Watson tells On3 he has committed to Arizona State.
Watson, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound class of 2023 power forward, ultimately chose the Sun Devils over offers from Florida State, Illinois, Cincinnati, USC, Maryland, Miami, and others.
He becomes Arizona State’s first commitment to the 2023 class.
Watson, a native of Middletown, N.Y., is the No. 109 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 21 ranked power forward and the No. 7 overall player in the state of New York.

Watson on his commitment to Arizona State
Watson officially visited the Sun Devils last week.
“I chose Arizona state because when I went on the visit, it felt like home. The coaching staff was very welcoming and I really like coach (Bobby) Hurley. We can talk about anything, not just basketball. I also like the play style of ASU, they get up and down the floor.”
What type of player is Arizona State getting in Akil Watson?
“A versatile player, a do-it-all-long wing,” he says. “I’m willing to guard the best player on the other team. I’m also a team player. ASU is also getting a winning player.”
Watson has a message for ASU fans.
“FORKS UP!”
