Emotional Cam Skattebo consoled by Arizona State teammates after double-OT Peach Bowl loss to Texas
Cam Skattebo did all he could to keep Arizona State alive in the College Football Playoff.
Be it running, catching or throwing, the senior Sun Devils running back literally did it all, combining for 284 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in Wednesday afternoon’s 39-31 double-overtime loss to Texas in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl CFP national quarterfinal.
Given his Herculean effort inside Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, including 143 rushing yards and two scores on 30 carries, Skattebo was understandably emotional immediately after the final whistle sounded, a moment ESPN cameras caught as Longhorns players celebrated around him.
Check out the touching moment below, as Skattebo drops into a crouch and is consoled by Arizona State teammates.
Skattebo, who also added a 42-yard touchdown pass to Malik McClain to cut the Longhorns’ lead to 24-16 with 6:31 left in regulation, received plenty of love after the game, including from Texas backup quarterback Arch Manning. Skattebo accounted for all three of the Sun Devils’ scores and a two-point conversion during a 23-0 run as Arizona State rallied back from 24-8 to take a 31-24 lead in the first overtime period.

A frustrated Skattebo was caught on camera saying “he was done with this,” after frustrating offensive drives. Simmons was a big factor in containing the star running back in the first half.
Skattebo and Arizona State were bottled up in the red zone in the first half, mustering only three points.
“We’ve got to get in the low red zone,” ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham said at halftime. “We’re not running the ball great right now. We’ve got to be better. I need to do a better job coaching to put these guys in a position to be successful. Then, we’re getting absolutely destroyed on special teams right now.”
Skattebo had 45 yards on 13 carries for 3.5 yards per carry in the first 30 minutes of the game.
