Arizona upsets Iowa State, Caleb Love comes alive in overtime to shock Cyclones

The Arizona Wildcats defeated Iowa State 86-75 in overtime on Monday night behind Caleb Love‘s 22-point performance which included a half-court buzzer beater to send the game to overtime.
Love’s hot streak continued into the extra period, nailing a couple of 3-point baskets to give the Wildcats a six-point edge. Carter Bryant joined in on the fun, icing the game one a third consecutive triple.
Before Love hit the 55-foot prayer to tie the game and send it to overtime, he had made just one of his first 10 3-point baskets. He scored half of his points between the final shot of regulation and the end of overtime, which swung mightily in the Wildcats’ favor.
Tobe Awaka was the team’s second-leading scorer on the night behind Love, logging an impressive 17-point, 12-rebound performance in the win. He shot 6 of 6 from the floor as well. Bryant came off the bench to add 14 points — 12 of which came from beyond the arc including the one that put the game on ice in overtime. KJ Lewis also came off the bench to contribute 14 points, six assists and eight rebounds in the winning effort.
For Iowa State, four of their five starters scored in double figures and were led by junior guard Tamin Lipsey’s 18. Curtis Jones, who is the team’s leading scorer, was held to eight points and shot just 1 for 11 from the floor including 0 for 8 from deep.

The 11-point winning margin for Arizona was its largest lead of the entire game. They previously trailed by as many as seven points during the contest, but never let Iowa State pull away.
In the end, Arizona had more rebounds (40-39), assists (19-12), shots made (29-28), steals (13-7) and fastbreak points (17-9) than Iowa State.
The loss is just the third on the season for the Cyclones, who drop to 17-3 on the season while Arizona continues its hot start to Big 12 play. They now own sole possession of second place in the Big 12 conference standings after the win and have won each of their last three games.
Looking ahead, the Wildcats are now able to set their sights on the in-state rivalry matchup against Arizona State — who is off to a 2-6 start to league play — on the road on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and will air live on CBS.
