Arizona quarterback Jayden de Laura is back for his second season leading the Wildcats offense this year. He believes the team is set for another leap forward, especially on offense.

The 2022 Arizona offense was pretty dynamic, averaging 30.8 points and 461.9 yards per game during the campaign. The dynamic de Laura has his fair share of weapons to sling it to with wide receivers Jacob Cowing, Dorian Singer and Tetairoa McMillan plus running back Michael Wiley.

Only Singer doesn’t return from that group, and de Laura expects to the chemistry between the remaining players on offense continue to grow and lead to good results for the Wildcats.

“I feel like we barely scratched the surface last season,” de Laura said at Pac-12 Media Day. “I really didn’t realize that T-Mac, me, Jacob, and even Dorian, that was kind of our first real season in that scheme. So we really were learning as we went throughout the season. If us not being 100% comfortable in that offense, and we produced those type of numbers, had electrifying games, then I feel like now that we’re bought in, now that we’re comfortable with each other, we know how to play, we know how everybody else plays, I feel like the sky’s the limit for us.”

The fourth-year player transferred to Arizona after spending his first two seasons at Washington State. The starting quarterback for the Cougars in 2020 and 2021, de Laura earned Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors during the 2021 campaign.

Fisch took over a struggling Arizona program after the 2020 season that needed a reboot. After a 1-11 mark in 2021, Fisch improved the team to 5-7 last year.

Now the head coach thinks the group assembled for 2023 is the best of the three teams he has coached in Tuscon, Ariz.

“I’ll tell you, it’s our best team,” Fisch said. “It’s our best team. We’re not going to shy away from that. I don’t know what that means in regards to wins, but I do know what it means in regards to the type of players we have, the quality of players we have, the talent we have. Our guys are going to go out there and play at a very, very high level. If they play at the level that I think we’re going to play at, I think we’re going to win a lot of games this year.”
