Arkansas announces major change to weekend series vs. Ole Miss due to weather

The weather across the South has been wreaking havoc across the college baseball landscape this weekend. The Arkansas Razorbacks announced that there would be no game on Thursday night between the No. 5 Razorbacks and the Ole Miss Rebels. The game was originally slated for 7:30 PM EST. Arkansas announced both teams will be playing two nine-inning games on Friday, starting at 2:00 PM EST.

Arkansas once again has one of the best teams in college baseball. They currently sit at 23-5 overall and 6-3 in the SEC. They won one of three games in their series against the best team in college baseball, the top-ranked LSU Tigers. The win came against LSU on Friday, March 10th, when the Razorbacks prevailed 9-3.

Slugger Jared Wegner currently leads Arkansas in home runs with 12. He also leads the team in RBIs and by a significant margin with 43 on the 2023 campaign. Wegner also has 80 total bases, more than 19 bases ahead of the second person on the Hogs’ roster. Arkansas has a number of other impressive offensive weapons in their arsenal: Jace Bohrofen, Tavian Josenberger, and Kendall Diggs.

Then there’s Brady Slavens and Payton Stovall. Stovall made some spectacular plays when his team needed them the most last year in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. He was named to the 2022 NCAA Stillwater Regional All-Tournament Team. Stovall became the first player with five hits in a College World Series game since North Carolina’s Dustin Ackley did it in 2009. Slavens was a dynamic fielder last year, helping the Hogs set a new record in fielding percentage (.982). The gifted slugger also led the team with 16 home runs and 58 RBIs in 2022, when he was a junior. It’s easy to see why the Razorbacks are one of the elite teams in college baseball.

At one point during the 2023 campaign, Arkansas won 15 straight games, putting them in elite company in the college baseball landscape. After the Ole Miss series, their next SEC opponent will be the Tennessee Volunteers. That series is slated for Friday, April 14th and it will be a three-game series. The following weekend, they’ll face off against the Georgia Bulldogs. That series is slated for Thursday, April 20th, Friday, April 21st, and Saturday, April 22nd.

The 2023 SEC Tournament will be played in Hoover, Alabama. That’s going to start on Tuesday, May 23rd. It should be an exciting tournament as the SEC is loaded with top tier talent.
