Arkansas basketball coach Eric Musselman shares shocking injury news
Arkansas basketball coach Eric Musselman received some bad injury news this week, but it wasn’t pertaining to one of his players. Razorbacks forward Trey Wade landed on Musselman’s left shoulder during a recent practice, causing the coach to need an MRI.
The results came back Thursday, showing the coach tore his rotator cuff and would need surgery.
The coach tweeted in a reply that he hopes to wait until the offseason to have the surgery. However, he said that will be determined by how he feels over the next few days.
Musselman currently has Arkansas at 10-2 this season and just outside the top 25. After dropping two straight losses to Oklahoma and Hofstra, the Razorbacks got back in the win column Tuesday against Elon.
Musselman is in his third year with the Razorbacks, having led them to at least 20 victories in each of his first two seasons. After the NCAA Tournament was postponed in 2020, he got the team in the following season. A three seed, Arkansas got all the way to the Elite Eight before falling to eventual champion Baylor.

Prior to arriving in Fayetteville, he spent four seasons with the Nevada Wolfpack. He was just as successful there, leading them to 20 wins every season he was coach. Nevada made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2017-19 under Musselman.
Trey Wade, the player who fell on Musselman, is a senior for the Razorbacks. After averaging more than 20 minutes per game the past two seasons, he has seen that number decrease to just 8.2 this year. He had his best game of the year in the recent win against Elon, scoring seven points to go with five rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes.
The injury news on Eric Musselman comes as a huge shock, and hopefully, the coach is able to make a quick recovery. Arkansas is set to open SEC play on Wednesday against Mississippi State.
