Sam Pittman pulls back the curtain on his relationship with Shane Beamer
Arkansas gets into their SEC schedule early this season as they take on South Carolina at home this weekend. Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman is familiar with the Gamecock’s head man Shane Beamer, as the two spent a year together on UGA’s coaching staff during the 2016 season. Pittman spoke about his relationship with Beamer and their days together in Georgia.
“Yeah we talk, Shane lived in the same subdivision as I did at Georgia, came in together. He was tight end coach and special teams coordinator, obviously we worked together in the same meetings for 14 hours a day,” Pittman said. “So we knew each other well, he has a wonderful family, beautiful family, he’d always go on bike rides and walks through the neighborhood and stop in and say hello.”
Pittman spoke more about Beamer, but also revealed that the two did not spend as much time with each other outside of the facility in Athens when they were co-workers.

“But he’s just a really good man, really good coach, energetic guy. But we didn’t hang out, be honest with you, you don’t hangout with anybody. You’re tired of seeing people when you go home you’ve seem them for 14, 15 hours a day, and it wasn’t from dislike,” Beamer said.
Their lack of time together clearly isn’t anything personal, as Pittman told a story about how his current assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Scott Fountain lived very close to him when they were together at Georgia and still never interacted much.

“Scott Fountain lived next to me and I never saw him, matter fact Scott Fountain bought a new home and he was I mean from Andy,” Pittman said gesturing to a reporter close by in the room. “That close, and I never went in his house. I mean you get home and you’re just tired.”
Pittman has been regarded as one of the most genuine coaching personalities in the SEC, commonly referred to as the kind of guy you’d ‘want to get a beer with’. He may not have spent a ton of time with Beamer and the Georgia coaching staff off the field during his time there, but clearly is a fan of his and is looking forward to their matchup this Saturday.
“So has nothing to do with that, Shane’s a wonderful, great coach, and looking forward to seeing him,” Pittman said.
