Arkansas running back Braylen Russell is withdrawing his name from the transfer portal, he announced Saturday via X. It is the second time this cycle that Russell has entered his name in the portal and then reversed course.

“The love I have for Coach (Sam Pittman) and the University of Arkansas is beyond words,” Russell wrote in the post. “With everything happening in my life, I initially lost sight of what truly matters. But through conversations with Coach Pitt, I’ve regained perspective. Thank you so much,I love you!”

Russell first entered the transfer portal on Dec. 10 only to withdraw his name a few hours later. However, he later re-entered on Dec. 15 and stayed in the portal for six days this time before again making the decision to come back to Fayetteville.

A true freshman this past season, Russell played in eight games during his first year on campus. He finished the 2024 season with 47 carries for 304 yards, two touchdowns, 6.5 yards per carry, three catches and 18 receiving yards.

As a member of the Class of 2024, Braylen Russell was a four-star recruit out of Benton (Ark.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 5 overall prospect in the state, the No. 30 running back in the class and the No. 402 overall prospect in the class.

With leading rusher Ja’Quinden Jackson declaring for the NFL Draft and Rashad Dubinion entering the transfer portal, Russell will be expected to play a key role for the Razorbacks in 2025. Arkansas finished this past season with a 6-6 record to reach a bowl game for the fourth time in five seasons under coach Sam Pittman.

Overall in the transfer portal, Arkansas has brought in 11 players while losing 26, so it’s a big boost to get Russell back. They still have a lot of ground to make up, ranking No. 63 according to On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
