Carson Wiggins injury update: Arkansas reliever exits game vs. Florida with trainer

The Arkansas Razorbacks entered their game Sunday against the Florida Gators looking to avoid a third-straight series loss in SEC play. Midway through the game, the Razorbacks find themselves dealing with a new concern. Reliever Carson Wiggins was forced to exit the game with a trainer.
Wiggins came in for the bottom of the sixth in a tie game. After throwing just seven pitches and giving up a single, he checked on the runner at first. That’s when he called for the trainer with an apparent issue, though it was not clear when the injury occurred or to what body part.
Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn was forced to turn to Will McEntire to replace Carson Wiggins, but a double forced the runner that he had let single score. At that point in the game Florida a 6-5 lead. Another double after that gave the Gators a more comfortable two-run lead in the sixth inning.
While there is going to be concern about the game, the focus for Arkansas is going to be on Wiggins’ health. Just a true freshman, he’s caught plenty of attention for his ability to throw in the triple digits. That’s made him a major bullpen weapon for Van Horn and the Razorbacks and losing him for any amount of time, especially to an apparent non-contact injury could be a major issue.

An Oklahoma native, Wiggins has a 2.57 ERA this season in 14 innings pitched. In that time he also has 20 strikeouts and nine walks. He’s given up just three earned runs against SEC opponents this season.
Coming out of high school, Wiggins was considered a massive prospect. He was ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 35 overall prospect and the No. 10 right-handed pitcher in the class of 2024. Perfect Game also rated him as the No. 1 overall prospect and the No. 1 right-handed pitcher in Oklahoma. MLB Pipeline had him as the No. 17 high school prospect and the No. 79 overall prospect for the 2024 MLB Draft, though he was not selected.
As a team, Arkansas is fifth-ranked in the country with a 37-8 overall record and a 14-6 SEC record. However, coming into their series with the Florida Gators, the Razorbacks had lost two straight SEC series. Both of those were two losses in three games. The hope on Sunday was to avoid a series loss on the road in Gainesville.
