Chris Low thinks Arkansas is ‘teetering’ amid tough schedule

After starting at 2-0, Arkansas finds itself in the midst of a four-game losing streak and an 0-3 start to their SEC slate. With that being the case, ESPN’s Chris Low believes the Razorbacks might not take much more before they implode from the frustration.

Low spoke about the Hogs’ struggles during an appearance on ‘McElroy and Cubelic In The Morning’ on Wednesday. He felt like how close Arkansas has been in each of their four losses isn’t helping them as it’s becoming more and more defeating.

“They’ve had some close losses, they’ve been in games and they just haven’t been able to break through. I think it’s hard,” Low said. “You look at it and you think at what point does that start to break a team? When you’ve sort of been fighting, you’ve been clawing, you’ve been going through this tough stretch of games but you just haven’t been able to pull out wins.

“I would think that’s probably where they are right now, sort of teetering, because they haven’t been able to sort of translate that fight and that grit into wins.”

Arkansas’ four losses have come by an average of just over seven points as three of the four have come by a touchdown or less. They held leads against each of the quartet of opponents in BYU, LSU, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss while remaining competitive in each until the very. Still, none of those matchups went into the win column for the Razorbacks.

It’s not getting any easier for the Hogs either. For all their troubles over the last month, their next task is as hard as it gets with a road trip to Tuscaloosa to play No. 11 Alabama on deck.

That’s why, coming out of this weekend, Low will be keeping an eye on Fayetteville to see how Arkansas reacts to their latest loss and season as a whole.

Alabama vs. Arkansas: Picking Crimson Tide vs. Razorbacks

Arkansas and Alabama are set to meet on Saturday in a Week 7 battle in Bryant-Denny and it’s not exactly expected to be close. With the Razorbacks spiraling and the Crimson Tide rising, FanDuel has Alabama as a 20.5-point home favorite with it potentially being a lot worse.

Former LSU OL T-Bob Hebert joined On3‘s Andy Staples on Wednesday to break down the game. He decided that he still likes the Crimson Tide to cover despite the large spread.

“If this Alabama team wins anything of note? It’s probably Nick Saban’s best coaching job that he’s ever had,” he said. “You look at Arkansas? And, speaking of morale and things like that, these two teams could not be going in more opposite directions. Alabama’s had two really impressive SEC comebacks in must-have wins to take control of the West. And Arkansas is falling apart. You blow the big lead against BYU, you almost get LSU and you fall short, you lose by seven to Ole Miss. You got Dan Enos immediately responding to student emails after the game about play calling?

“The Alabama defense is gonna give KJ (Jefferson) and Enos a ton of problems. Jalen Milroe continues to grow in strength. I talked to my gambling guy here – I got Collin Wilson of the Action Network. He is so sharp. He thinks, maybe, an Arkansas backdoor cover but he did say slam the over. But I’m going Alabama to cover here.”

Staples agreed with Hebert, saying that Arkansas will need to come out strong in order to avoid falling behind early. Based on the way it has played in the past few games, though, it doesn’t inspire much confidence.

“Arkansas, if they don’t score quickly, they may not score at all against Alabama’s defense,” Staples said. “Remember that Arkansas-Georgia game a few years ago? Arkansas came in all hot and then couldn’t get across the 50? I’m a little worried that’s what we’re walking into here.”
