Dan Enos has been around college football at a number of high-profile stops, and his latest gig brings him to Arkansas as their new offensive coordinator.

Speaking with the media as he readies for his return to Fayetteville, Enos shared what goes in to his coaching style, and how he handles the different skillsets of the quarterbacks he’s coaching.

“I think everybody I’ve coached is different,” said Enos. “You know, like I told the quarterbacks the first night, we go through my quarterback commandments and my philosophy of playing the position, and I said, ‘You know, one thing about this position, is I think I’ve had six or seven guys that I’ve coached in the NFL last year,’ and I said, ‘You know what, they’re all different, and they’ve all taught me something.’ They all, maybe when I was young I tried to put guys in a box a little bit or whatever, but you know, they’re all different. Cooper Rush and Brandon Allen are different than Jalen Hurts and Mac Jones and Tua [Tagovailoa], and you know, it’s just, I’ve learned from them.

“Some guys are better at this, and a little better at that. My job is to try and make them equally as good at everything as I can. Find out where their deficiencies are and try to make them their strengths. That’s my job, to figure that out. But then at the end of the day, we’re going to grow and we’re going to be like, ‘Okay, here’s what we do well, here’s what we do the best and we’re going to do those things.'”

Alas, Arkansas’ current quarterback, KJ Jefferson, isn’t exactly like anything Enos has seen before, but the Razorbacks coordinator believes his potential is through the roof moving forward.

“So I think KJ is a guy that can do a lot of different things,” added Enos. “I think he could be a true drop-back passer, and get by and be very, very good at it. Like I said, he’s got great eyes. Anticipation. Great arm talent. But man, this guy is a big, really, really good, natural runner. He’s got great vision. He sets up blocks. He’s a tremendous athlete. We’re going to find a nice, good balance between letting him do the things he can do with his arm, and then also I would probably say allowing him to do the things with his legs. At the end of the day, to make us the most efficient offense we can be, and to help our football team win.

“So he’s a really good athlete, and he’s again, I’m getting to know him. I’ve gotten to know him, and he’s different. He’s different than the other guys.”

2023 could be a big breakout season for KJ Jefferson, with Dan Enos bringing a wealth of experience to town. It’s going to be fun to watch him run wild against SEC competition, seeing where he stands among the best of the best.
