Arkansas walked into Rupp Arena on Tuesday night and emerged as comfortable winners. And veteran Davonte Davis feels like Arkansas hasn’t reached its peak yet.

The team is just starting to get healthy and is beginning to fire on all cylinders.

“I feel like we haven’t even reached our peak, we’re just now getting better,” Davis said. “We’re just now getting to the level that y’all as the outsiders and our fans and everyone that expected us to be good, I think we’re reaching that now.”

Arkansas still has plenty of work to do as it looks to lock up decent NCAA Tournament seeing, but things are trending in the right direction. Until about a week ago, Arkansas hadn’t even won a road game.

The Hogs snatched two road wins in the last week.

“We’ve still got a lot of things to work on for sure, but this is huge,” Davis said. “It starts right here, especially with the young guys making a huge contribution in this game. Loud atmosphere, coming to Rupp first time. It’s hard. I remember my first time, it was COVID and I didn’t get this experience. So I know it was hard for them and I think they handled it really well.”

Davonte Davis contributing mature approach

If Arkansas hasn’t reached its peak yet, it may be getting close.

Davonte Davis’ mature approach drew rave reviews from coach Eric Musselman recently. He was electric in the win over Kentucky.

“Devo’s passing tonight, his seven assists, you know, he’s been shooting the ball so well and I can’t tell you from a shot selection standpoint how proud I am of him playing to win tonight,” Musselman said. “Because he’s been shooting the three at a really high level and he took what the defense gave him. He was 1-of-2 from three.”

Davis chipped in 15 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals in a stat-sheet-stuffing performance on Tuesday night.

But it’s how he went about it that earned him rave reviews from his coach.

“Sometimes when somebody takes 10 threes and makes four, the next game they come out and they hunt for that shot,” Musselman said. “Just really proud of his maturity and his game management tonight. He’s defending at an incredible level, I thought his basketball decision-making was probably the best since I’ve been around him. He played to win the game and he tried to do every possible thing that he could to help us come out of Rupp with a W.”
