Arkansas guard Davonte Davis needed a timeout during the Razorbacks’ game against LSU. So he called one himself.

The timeout might have upset some coaches. But Eric Musselman was more than fine with it.

“Probably (Davonte’s) done that about three times, maybe four,” Musselman said. “I know he did it at least once as a freshman.”

Musselman then broke down some of the reasons why he thought Davis decided that moment in the game was the time to call the timeout.

“Probably tired, mad, knows I’m not going to call one,” Musselman said. “So you add those three together and he called it himself. We got plenty. He could probably call two or three and he’d still have enough left for late game if we need it.”

Davonte Davis explains his side of the timeout call

Arkansas played a tremendous first half against the Tigers, entering the locker room up 38-14 before settling into a 60-40 victory.

Davonte Davis finished with a game-high 16 points on 7-for-8 shooting plus seven rebounds, three assists and one timeout called.

“I called it. Had a media coming up. I still called it,” Davis said of the timeout call. “I seen we was only up like nine or ten. I didn’t want to come down — I think they was trying to press too. Trying to get an even longer run. I was like, nope. Not doing it. Let’s call this timeout. Get ourselves together. Then we come back out, try to get a bucket, then the next media coming up. I think we did that. We got a stop at the other end, then the media.”

Davis is averaging 10.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in 32.3 minutes.
