Arkansas lost one of its star players when big man Trevon Brazile suffered a torn ACL that ended his 2022-23 campaign before conference play.

But the Razorbacks big man appears to be taking his injury in stride.

“I think he’s doing great. I mean I talked to him not once, not twice yesterday on the phone, when I called him,” coach Eric Musselman said. “I was a little worried that he might just want to hang out and gather his thoughts, but he’s been great. I talked to his sister yesterday, and she’s thinking of trying to come out whenever the surgery date gets settled.”

That support system has been key in helping Brazile quickly refocus and move forward with a positive attitude, ready to hit it hard in rehab to prepare his return to the floor eventually.

“Phil, his father, was great,” Musselman said. “Again, he was in the training room with TB when we went through some things.”

In the meantime, it’s just been planning for that and working on keeping a positive attitude. To that end, Brazile seems to be doing OK.

“I think he’s doing really well considering everything,” Musselman said. “Like I said, he was looking forward to this game and he was looking forward to playing out the SEC, and it’s not going to happen now for him. But I do think he’s in the right frame of mind. We talked about upper-body stuff that he can do in the weight room, and maybe some things that he could do with his healthy leg and how quickly he wants to get that started. So everything’s just moving forward. He’s hanging in there.”

Brazile had averaged 11.8 points and a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per game prior to suffering a torn ACL.

Musselman also got into what must happen to replace Brazile’s impact in the lineup with the sophomore big man now out for the season.
