Eric Musselman raves about Devo Davis’ commitment to getting better
After a really poor start to the year shooting the basketball, Arkansas guard Davonte Davis is on a heater as of late. In his last seven games, Davis is converting three-pointers at a much higher rate, having made 16 of 35, good for 45.7% from deep over that stretch. Unlikely he shoots that well the rest of the year, but the slump-breaking streak is a good sign of things to come for Davis.
According to the player himself, the improved shooting numbers are also a sign of his hard work. After the Hogs’ latest game, head coach Eric Musselman admitted that Davis has been getting in the gym to get up extra shots.
“He’s just worked so hard of late,” Musselman said. “He’s in again today at like — I think I got here at 8, 7:30, and he was already in here. (Anthony Black) came in soon after to rehab and he’s shooting. Obviously we’re frustrated at times because we’ve played so many close games on the road, but it’s a team that continues to believe. He did everything he possibly could. I lifted today for an hour and he was in there for an entire hour.”
Davis has also commented on the recent hot shooting himself.
“Been working it, baby,” Davis responded when asked, noting that he’s always in the gym now. “But nah, I be putting that work in for real. And I’m glad it’s paying off, because I mean — so, I’ll be in the gym every day, like all day, two to three times a day, trying to make shots like I am now.”

“So I’m just gonna continue to work hard, you know what I mean, and continue to put my work in and make sure all these guys doing the same thing. And we’re gonna continue to get better as a team and continue to win, you know what I mean. We dug ourselves a hole in it so we got to bounce back from our the few losses we had and we ready for Baylor Saturday.”
All that hard work is paying off for Devo Davis. Arkansas needed more threats from deep and the veteran guard has come through in a massive way as a perimeter scorer.
