John Calipari believes he is on his fourth Arkansas team this season

The Arkansas Razorbacks men’s basketball team currently sits at 18-12 overall. And their head coach, John Calipari is well aware this season has taken many twists and turns along the way. His team has evolved a number of times throughout the 2024-2025 college basketball campaign. The Razorbacks head coach recently said in his press conference that he thinks he’s on his fourth Hogs team this season.
“You know what? It’s funny. There’s not one way to play this game. Depends on your team. This is about my fourth team this year. I got a new team. I said to the guys, ‘Why am I still tweaking stuff?’ And they said, ‘Well, you’re looking at tape,” No. We’re a different team than we were two weeks ago,” Calipari explained.
“We’ve got to figure out how we have to play to win. You know, defending. Doing some of this stuff has to be what we do. And again, just so you know, we got smoked by South Carolina so bad. I never looked at the tape. And I told the team the reason I didn’t look at the tape. That wasn’t my team. So why would I watch it?” Calipari continued.

“That’s not my team. I mean, we were so bad. We were 0 for 17 from three. Missed free throws. Missed layups. Missed one footers. Missed everything. Shot 15 percent. And I just said, ‘Look it was a dud. Next game.’ But I’m happy for Trevon [Brazile]. It’s been an up and down road but I keep telling him you’ve got stuff that a normal guy doesn’t have. Now bring it. And I told him. I’m gonna hold you accountable. Even though you play well. I’m still gonna get on you to listen. To focus and lock in. To go after every ball. Went to a small lineup today which we can do against Vandy. But there are other teams, it’ll be harder for us to do,” Calipari explained.
The Hogs have won three of their last four games, including their last one, a 90-77 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores. Their final game of the 2024-2025 regular season is coming up on Saturday, when they’ll face the No. 25 ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. That one will be played in Fayetteville, and the tip-off is set for that one at noon on the SEC Network.
