John Daly is one of the most beloved figures in Arkansas athletics history. The legendary golfer has lived a notoriously wild lifestyle that few people could ever imagine. On Wednesday night, Daly got to show his stuff in another sport and toss out the first pitch in the Washington Nationals vs. St. Louis Cardinals MLB matchup. The former Arkansas star was a special guest of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals let him throw out the ceremonial first pitch and he didn’t disappoint.

Check it out as JD fires one to home plate.

That’s actually one of the better first pitches you will ever see. Credit to Daly for putting it right on the money. He threw out the first pitch along with Miss Missouri, Clare Marie Kuebler.

Daly is in St. Louis, Missouri this week for a PGA Champions Tour event, the Ascension Charity Classic. The event is being played Friday through Sunday at Norwood Hills Country Club (St. Louis, Missouri).

John Daly bio

John Daly made a name for himself as one of the longest drivers on the PGA Tour. Undoubtedly his most famous win was his “zero to hero” win at the 1991 PGA Championship. Another highlight of his PGA Tour career was the 1995 playoff victory over Constantino Rocca in the British Open.

In addition to winning on American soil, Daly has won pro events in South Africa, Swaziland, Scotland, Germany, South Korea, Turkey and Canada.

1991 PGA Championship

The 1991 PGA Championship was played at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Indiana. He had 23 starts and had missed 11 cuts leading up to the tournament, so it took a number of withdrawals for him to even get into the tournament. He played the course for the first time in his entire life and shot a 12-under 276. His lead was so big heading into the final round that all that it took was a 1-under 71 in the final round to hold of Bruce Lietzke and win the PGA Championship. The win was easily the most memorable moment of Daly’s professional golfing career.

John Daly II

John Daly played on the Arkansas golf team from 1984 to 1987. Daly’s son, John Daly II, is currently a sophomore on the Arkansas golf team. In 2021, he earned SEC first year academic honor roll honors. He also teamed up with his father to win the 2021 PNC challenge with an event-record of 27-under par during 36 holes.

In high school, Daly II had seven AJGA top-10 finishes from September 2020 to July 2021. Before enrolling at Arkansas, the AJGA had him ranked as the third-ranked junior in the state of Florida. In high school, he was named as a 2020 Rolex Junior All-American.

An avid Razorbacks football fan, you better believe Daly will be tuning in this Saturday when Arkansas takes on the South Carolina Gamecocks. Kickoff is set for 11:00 AM CST from Fayetteville, Arkansas.
