KJ Jefferson on Arkansas' losing streak: ‘Enough is enough’

Arkansas hasn’t seen a win since September 9th, which was 41 days ago, when they defeated Kent State. That’s why, heading into this weekend, Razorback QB KJ Jefferson says he and his teammates have had enough of this losing streak and plan to end that run at 42 days.

Jefferson addressed the ‘Hog’s five consecutive losses during a media availability earlier this week. He kept it short and to the point as he knows everyone in their program is ready to see a victory added to their record.

“We’ve all got the same mindset that enough is enough,” Jefferson said. “I mean we’re tired of feeling this way, we’re tired of losing.”

“That’s the main part. We’re tired of feeling this way, we want to get back in the win column,” said Jefferson. “We want to be able to come in the locker room, celebrate, and have fun getting back in the win column.”

Arkansas’ seven-point loss to BYU back on September 16th didn’t seem too critical at the time. However, with how difficult the start to their conference slate was, it set them up for a losing streak that has since reached five defeats, their longest such streak since losing nine straight to end 2019.

Again, to be fair, playing against competition like LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Alabama isn’t a layup for anyone. That’s four quality opponents and, to the Hog’s credit, they’ve kept it competitive and respectable with the worst of any of their five defeats being by just a dozen points.

Still, that’s no consolation prize for Jefferson and the Razorbacks. That’s why they’re happy to be back in Fayetteville this weekend in order to try and taste victory, their first on the palate in over a month, against Mississippi State.

“It has also been lessons learned – being on the road through this stretch that we’re on. We’re glad to be back at home this week.”

Sam Pittman explains why Mississippi State is a must-win game

Arkansas came into 2023 with hopes and expectations. Unfortunately, midway through the season, most of those dreams have flown out the window.

Arkansas is currently 2-5 with a 0-4 record in the SEC. However, that does not mean that their season is over.

In an attempt to push this team to finish out the year and have a successful campaign, Sam Pittman called Saturday’s game against Mississippi State a must-win earlier in the week. On Wednesday, he explained why he’s characterizing Saturday’s game that way.

“I think we were a little bit better team when we’re real,” said Pittman. “The kids need to understand that. Like anything, I’m sure they watch my press conference and things of that nature. A lot of times, we say things to you that we want to get back to the kids without us saying it, to be perfectly honest with you. We use the media in some aspects at times. But our kids know what we need to get done.”

“Let’s make no mistake about it: we want to go to a bowl and we need to win. Again, I don’t wanna get crucified because I’ve said here, ‘Well, all he wants to do is go to bowls’. That’s reality. It ain’t what we wanted but it’s reality. We want to get to a bowl game and, to do that, we’ve got to win Saturday.”
