Following tight ends coach Dowell Loggains leaving Arkansas to become the offensive coordinator at South Carolina, the Razorbacks have hired Morgan Turner to their coaching staff as the new tight ends coach. Turner brings ten years of experience in coaching tight ends and gave his initial impressions of the Razorbacks’ unit.

“They’re teaching me right now so it’s good, it seems like a really smart room, I’m learning the offense from them. But excited to work with the guys, I’m still honestly learning the names of everyone on the team and all that stuff, so trying keep my head above water,” Turner admitted.

Turner has only been with the team for a short amount of time, but will get up to speed on things fast and be able to make a real impact for Arkansas. Prior to his arrival, Turner has been a part of Stanford‘s coaching staff since 2010, where he started off as a sports performance intern before moving into an offensive assistant role and then finally becoming their tight ends coach.

Turner has been a part of a ten-year run at Stanford where they’ve become a tight end factory, helping propel various tight ends like Dalton Schultz, Austin Hooper, Coby Fleener, Levine Toilolo, Zach Ertz, and others to the next level. His resume speaks for itself, and it will be interesting to see if Arkansas could achieve a similar level of success at the position under Turner.

“But it seems like a really good room, got a couple old guys, got a young guy, and then got a couple coming in that should be really good too that I’m going to be able to learn and grow with them and learn this offense,” Turner said.

Arkansas No. 1 tight end and third leading receiver from this season Trey Knox has entered the transfer portal, taking 26 catches, 296 yards, and five touchdown catches worth of production with him. But the Razorbacks still have experienced veterans like Hudson Henry on the roster.

They also bring in a duo of talented tight ends as a part of their 2023 recruiting class in Shamar Easter and Luke Hasz, both four-star high school prospects that rank No. 10 and 11 nationally at the tight end position according to On3 Consensus.

Turner has proven to be somewhat of a tight end whisperer in the past, and it will be interesting to see how he gets the most out of that position group at Arkansas moving forward.
