Sam Pittman comments on position battle between Malik Chavis, Quincey McAdoo
If there were any positives to come out of of Arkansas‘ loss to Liberty on Saturday one might have been the play of Quincey McAdoo at cornerback. McAdoo made a major impact despite Malik Chavis earning the start after returning to health.
Coach Sam Pittman relayed Monday that McAdoo’s performance gives the Razorbacks even more options in the secondary.
“I think there’s always a competition going on, but I think McAdoo played really, really well,” Pittman said. “Especially for his first real time out there. I thought he played real well.”
McAdoo arrived at Arkansas as a receiver but moved over to the secondary following a rash of injuries in the defensive backfield.
The Razorbacks have needed him.
He did not disappoint on Saturday, recording three tackles, an interception, a pass breakup and a blocked punt that turned into a safety. He had not contributed statistically on offense this season.
His emergence might allow Arkansas to more gracefully deal with the suspension of Myles Slusher and Anthony Brown following the duo’s arrest early Sunday morning on charges of disorderly conduct.
Pittman comments on Slusher, Brown arrests
At a position group already besieged by injuries this season, the last thing Pittman probably planned to be dealing with was the suspension of two players following off-the-field issues.

However, after Slusher and Brown’s run-in early Sunday morning, the Arkansas head coach confirmed they have been suspended for at least this weekend’s game against No. 7 LSU.
“We’ve suspended them for at least one week,” Pittman said. “They have a.m. runs. They’ve done one this morning and they’ll both participate in practice on scout team. It’s unfortunate, it’s not acceptable and part of our job is to teach these kids and hopefully we’ll get that done.”
Quincey McAdoo can help fill the void, but Arkansas will need to be at its best to have a chance against LSU.
The two programs are scheduled to meet Saturday for a noon ET kickoff with a national broadcast on ESPN.
