Report: Arkansas defensive end suffers season-ending injury
Arkansas defensive end Dorian Gerald will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg in practice Wednesday, according to HawgBeat.
In the Razorbacks’ win to open their season over Rice, the Hogs defensive end played 42 snaps. Gerald contributed one quarterback hurry and no tackles. However, Pro Football Focus credited Gerald with three hurries.
Unfortunately, it’s the third consecutive year where the story of Gerald’s season is injuries. Two years ago, it was a strained artery that took him out, and last season the defensive end missed time with a leg injury.
As a super senior, Gerald was attempting to end his college career with a memorable final campaign. Once a promising recruit, the former four-star prospects career with Arkansas is now over.
At least Gerald is keeping his head up, tweeting “Trust God” following the news of his injury.
What could’ve been a promising career was knocked off course by the injury bug. Prior to coming to Arkansas, Gerald racked up 22 sacks in two seasons in junior college.

In Gerald’s stead, junior Zach Williams will have to step up. Listed behind Gerald on the depth chart, Williams only has 1.5 sacks in his college career.
Ahead of their matchup with the Texas Longhorns, the Razorbacks were getting healthy. Moreover, wide receiver Treylon Burks and defensive tackle John Ridgeway are back to full strength for Arkansas. Unfortunately, their return coincides with the devastating injury to Gerald.
The Razorbacks avoided an upset against Rice, scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter to overcome a 10-7 halftime deficit. Now, Sam Pittman’s squad can turn the week from a somber one, into one they’ll never forget if they can defeat Texas in Fayetteville.
Unfortunately, the Arkansas Razorbacks will be without Gerald as they attempt to turn Steve Sarkisian’s world upside down.
