Sam Pittman addresses Taylen Green's future with Arkansas after 2024 season
The Arkansas Razorbacks have found success in 2024 on the back of transfer quarterback Taylen Green. However, for head coach Sam Pittman, a major part of his job is roster retention and that means that there is no promise he’ll be on the team next season.
With two weeks remaining in the season, Pittman was asked if he knew what the future held for Green. However, for the time being, that’s a conversation that he plans to have in the future, once the season is over.
“Probably not,” Sam Pittman said. “So, you’ll know Monday after the Missouri game, I’ve got six guys that I’m gonna bring in and talk to myself or coaches are gonna talk to. You know, their players. But, there’s six in there that I want to sit down and talk to and certainly you could probably imagine who they are and they would be juniors.”
Sam Pittman is referencing players who are going to be eligible for the NFL Draft next season, helping them to decide if it’s the right decision to go pro. Those conversations are unique for each individual player, regarding both what their draft stock is going to be and, in the modern era, what something like their potential NIL earnings could be in college.
“Really, what I’m going to do is talk to them about their draft status and then talk to them about coming back and then, certainly, try to figure out how we can get them to come back,” Pittman concluded.

Taylen Green, being the team’s starting quarterback, will be one of the most important conversations that Sam Pittman ultimately has. He came to Arkansas as a transfer from Boise State where he spent three seasons, including a redshirt year. Upon getting to Fayetteville, he earned the starting job and through 10 games in the 2024 season has completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 2,363 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also has rushed for 407 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
Coming out of high school, Taylen Green had been a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was also the 48th-ranked quarterback recruit in that cycle.
A potential NFL future is something that Taylen Green will have conversations with Sam Pittman about following the season. In the meantime, the Razorbacks are going to be focused on finishing the 2024 season strong. That begins next Saturday against Louisiana Tech and will finish up on the road against Missouri. They’ll need to win at least one of those games to reach bowl eligibility.
