Sam Pittman confirms Tyrus Washington, Var'keyes Gumms are no longer with Arkansas
Sam Pittman confirmed the removals of two tight ends from the team at Arkansas earlier today.
During his press conference on Monday, Pittman received a question about a rumored suspension of a pair of players for the Razorbacks. He clarified that they were not suspensions but rather full dismissals of both Tyrus Washington and Var’keyes Gumms.
“They’re not on the team. There was no suspension,” said Pittman. “They’re gone.”
“Yeah, they’re not on the team,” Pittman clarified. “Tyrus Washington and (Var’keyes) Gumms, yeah.”
Washington was in his third season at Arkansas. He had appeared in 21 games in that time with some of those being starts. He totaled 14 catches in those outings for 212 yards and four touchdowns, including two this season for a score and a total of 25 yards.
Gumms was then in his second season with the ‘Hogs and fourth in total after a pair of years with North Texas. While with the ‘Hogs, Gumms has caught four passes for 26 yards. Add in his stats with the Mean Green and he has 38 receptions for 484 yards and five scores in his collegiate career.

Following this, Arkansas will now focus more on other players that they have at the position. Luke Hasz is their leading tight end during this season with 14 catches for 190 yards and a team-high of three touchdowns. With Washington having been next statistically, Andreas Paaske and Shamar Easter now are with a combined total of four receptions this year for 35 yards and two touchdowns. Paaske has both of the scores with him second among the pass catchers behind only Hasz.
Pittman didn’t explain any further as far as the reasoning behind the removals. Even so, it doesn’t change the circumstances of Washington and Gumms both being no longer with Arkansas.
