Sam Pittman makes definitive statement on Malik Chavis injury status
For the last few weeks, Sam Pittman has felt Malik Chavis could play for Arkansas as he comes back from an injury he suffered against BYU. As the Razorbacks get ready for this week’s game against Liberty, Pittman offered his most definitive update yet on Chavis’ status.
Pittman declared Chavis will be available for the game after putting together a strong showing in practice on Tuesday. The star cornerback hasn’t played the last few weeks even though Pittman thought at times he could’ve, but the official word came in this week.

“I think this would be my third week in a row that I think he’ll be ready to play,” Pittman joked. “Yesterday, he ran like his hair’s on fire. He was moving, and was happy and all those.
“I can tell you that he’s officially officially cleared. He’ll be able to play this week.”
In seven games this year, Chavis has eight total tackles. But it sounds like he’ll be back on the field this weekend when Arkansas and Liberty face off Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
Sam Pittman provides additional information on Kade Renfro’s ACL tear
Arkansas has been missing quarterback Kade Renfro this season. Expected to be a backup behind KJ Jefferson, Renfro tore his ACL at the end of the 2021 season and hasn’t been able to play since then. Now, head coach Sam Pittman has a new update on Renfro’s status.

The question came up due to a post made by Renfro that he had surgery on his knee. This is the second surgery that he’s had to repair his ACL injury.
“I think it was during the Texas A&M week,” Pittman said. “Just stepped and planted and [a] non-contact deal.
“Swelled up on him a little bit. Didn’t think it was that big of a deal. I don’t think he did, and he couldn’t get the swelling off of it and found out that he had torn his ACL again. So, another misfortunate deal. A non-contact type situation. But, yes, he had an ACL again.”
