Sam Pittman evaluates best role for Luke Hasz
Early enrollee freshman tight end Luke Hasz has impressed Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman with his play early in camp.
The four-star recruit has been a playmaker throughout the spring but Pittman says he still has work to do.
“We’re gonna have to continue to work him in his blocking,” Pittman said Tuesday after the first practice of the spring. “He doesn’t have the biggest stature. He’s not the biggest idea. But he’s willing and he’s capable. We have to continue to work that with him. But he’s a really good route runner. He’s exceptional catching the football. When he has it in his hand, he’s hard to tackle. Just seems like every day he six, eight, 10 catches in some type of team setting,. Gets open and catches everything that’s close to him. Been really, really pleased with him.”
Hasz is one of five tight ends listed on the spring roster. He is the smallest of the group at 6-foot-3 and 226 pounds. However, he is the only early enrollee among the group.
Pittman said that current size limits his options for his role on the team. However, he expects him to put on weight and muscle to become able to fill in at more different tight end spots.

“I think the only way he’s ever gonna become an on-the-line tight end is he got to practice it,” Pittman said. “But he also has to gain some weight. We talked to him about it as well. We don’t necessarily want to bring him off the field, because he can’t block in line. He’s willing. He’s very, very strong. Comes from a great high school program of lifting. We just got to get a little bit of weight on him. We’ll continue to work technique-wise. If we were playing today, he’d be off the ball, kind of that type of tight end. But we’re hoping that he can develop over the summer and become that every down tight end.”
