Sam Pittman reveals how new OC Dan Enos has helped QB KJ Jefferson's development
Arkansas hosted its team scrimmage on Saturday to cap off the spring practice sessions. Of course, the game was an opportunity for Razorback fans to get a first look at the new 2023 team — and for the coaches as well, who were excited to see the guys line up against one another in live action, even if it is just an intra-squad scrimmage.
Just before the game kicked off, the SEC Network was able to catch up with head coach Sam Pittman to discuss everything Arkansas football from this spring, starting with the addition of new coordinators Travis Williams (defense) and Dan Enos (offense).
“Well, I don’t know. I’m sure it could have gone better, but not much better,” said Pittman of the team’s effort this spring. “Been really excited about our new hires. Obviously, they had some big shoes to fill. But very very happy with where we are. I like the culture of the team. I’m very happy, very pleased with the two guys that we hired.”
Specifically, Pittman said he expects Enos to help quarterback KJ Jefferson’s development in a big way in his final year.
“Well, I think (Enos) has really helped (Jefferson). You know, he coaches a little bit more of a pro style offense, and I think it’s going to help KJ in the future. A lot of individual work, technique work, and I think he’s taken to it. I think he’s doing a really good job with it. And I think you’ll have to ask him, but I think him and Dan have a really good relationship.”

As for the offense, as a whole, Pittman revealed that the Hogs may play around with formations a little bit more, but will still stick to what they know as a program: running the ball, play action and deep passes.
“I just think, formationally, personnel, you know, we’re trying to get a little heavier with tight ends. We’ll be in more 12, possibly 13, maybe a little more 20 personnel. More personnel driven. Obviously, we’re going to play a slower brand of football. So, you know, your quarterback is going to have to be into checks and stuff of that nature when we get to the line of scrimmage. But for the most part, you know I like to run the ball, I like to play action and I like to go deep. That’s exactly what Dan likes and that’s why I hired him.”
Expect more of the same basic principles on offense this coming season for Arkansas, just presented in a bit of a different way under new OC Dan Enos.
