Sam Pittman shares thoughts on senior class ahead of final home game
With the final home game for Arkansas set for Saturday night against Ole Miss, head coach Sam Pittman took a moment to reflect on the senior class and what they’ve meant.
It’s not a group that Pittman recruited, as he’s only been at Arkansas for three years, but one he deeply appreciates nonetheless. He came in and they accepted him as their coach, something he hasn’t forgotten.
“Well, we were able to get bowl for most of that group, because some of them are new — but most of that group. And hopefully we can do it again this year,” Pittman said. “Their last three years, assuming they’ve been here, were with me. And I appreciate it. They took me in, accepted me. Fought like heck for us and the program and changed it. And we still have a long way to go and things of that nature, but I’m really proud of those guys.”

Pittman did add that there are some players that he’ll likely be talking with after the season about returning for another season.

And he, for one, does not seem to mind the concept of a player being honored for a second senior day. Plus, because of the free year of Covid eligibility most of these players have, there’s an outsize number that would likely have an avenue to return, should they choose.
“The Covid deal kind of allows that to happen nowadays in that class. But there are several that I’m going to talk to and see if we can get them to do it twice. It’s not the time to talk to them now — until the season is over. But certainly, I don’t think there’s any rule you can’t walk twice in senior night. If there is, they won’t walk next time, if they elect to come back,” Pittman said, bemusedly. “But I don’t think there’s a rule on that.”
