Taylen Green did not finish the game as Arkansas upset Tennessee due to injury. Malachi Singleton finished the deal and Sam Pittman revealed why Green did not come back in after exiting early in the fourth quarter.

It seems like it’s nothing serious, regarding Green. Pittman was ready to get him back in there, but Arkansas decided to play it safe.

Following the win, Pittman gave the latest, while praising Singleton getting it done in the end.

“Taylen you know, we’ll see. Obviously, it wasn’t as bad as for us not to ask him how he felt,” Pittman said. “Our diagnosis for him was if he wanted to get back in the game, we could, then he got tackled again, and then we just said, Okay, that’s enough. Let’s put Malachi in. Malachi, when he came in, we didn’t have great field position, so Bobby was trying to take care of that along with the field position. So, you know, if Bobby just calls what he wants to call on offense there, we’re usually pretty good. I think it’s part of that was, you know, making sure Malachi, we got a little confidence there.

“And then the last two drives, he was phenomenal. He ran it very well. And, you know, scored the touchdown there to go ahead. And he’d been here a long time and hadn’t got to play, and to go in there and score the winning touchdown, with the help of 10 other guys, has to be really fulfilling for him. I’m really happy for him.”

Taylen Green could’ve returned, but Sam Pittman doesn’t risk it

Green finished the game 19-of-27 passing for 266 yards but no scores. Singleton threw just three passes, completing two of them for 31 yards. He also ran for 12 yards and a touchdown, which proved to be the winning score.

“Well obviously they (Tennessee) think their kids deserve to win,” Pittman said. “They put in the time and I’m just going, man, we got two more plays, don’t (let them) score. Because I know our kids. We need to win that one. And so I was just thinking let’s get them on the ground, get them on the ground. Honestly I was thinking, hey, no penalties in the end zone, to be honest with you.

“But then whenever (Nico Iamleava) got flushed and he couldn’t find anybody, Nico finally tucked the ball to run and I was looking to see if he got the first down and he did. But the clock ran out. So I was just thinking all that stuff and all those things. And when it was over, I was thinking about how proud that the state of Arkansas is for their football team and that’s the only damn reason, well it’s not the reason I took the job, but that’s one of the top reasons that I came here, I wanted to try to make state proud of the team.”
