Taylen Green injury update: Sam Pittman shares latest on Arkansas QB
Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green was injured in the first quarter of a game against Ole Miss and attempted to gut it out for a bit before exiting the game for good after halftime.
Green suffered the injury when his left leg was caught underneath a defender while he was being tackled.
After the game, coach Sam Pittman expanded on the injury, which kept Green out for a couple series before he returned in the second quarter.
“Taylen, he came back when he got hurt and then we worked on him at half,” Pittman said. “We didn’t know coming out of half if he would be ready to play. And once we got; we said we were going to look at him throwing and moving. And Bobby (Petrino) had him moving front and back and just was gimpy.”
Taylen Green played a handful of plays in the second quarter but clearly wasn’t himself. And in a shootout with Ole Miss, Arkansas needed someone who was fully healthy at the position.

So the Hogs turned to freshman Malachi Singleton.
“We didn’t want to take that chance of getting him hurt further and plus we believe in Malachi, putting him in,” Pittman explained. “So that was the decision there. It had nothing more to do than that. We felt like we might get him hurt worse if we put him back out there. He was willing. It’s part of his success has to do with his legs, and he didn’t have them, basically.”
Taylen Green finished the contest 10-of-14 passing for 158 yards. He also added 10 carries for 16 yards, not having quite as much success on the ground as he’s accustomed to.
For his part, Singleton did well. He finished the game 11-of-14 passing for 207 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. He also ran for 39 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
The status of Taylen Green moving forward will certainly bear watching, though.
