Arkansas continued to match Alabama touchdown for touchdown to open the third quarter, as Treylon Burks caught a 66-yard touchdown of his own. The play drew some attention from the broadcasting crew as the football appeared to be snapped after the play clock hit zero on the replay.

Treylon Burks’ touchdown after play clock?

In an exciting game on Saturday, Arkansas and Alabama began trading touchdowns in the second quarter and the action continued immediately after the break.

After Alabama opened the second half with a 75-yard touchdown drive and quarterback Bryce Young’s fourth touchdown pass, Arkansas struck back in just three plays.

Burks caught a pass along the sideline that he turned into much more, running for almost another fifty yards after the catch. The 66-yard touchdown gave Burks 152 yards by the early third quarter and his second touchdown catch of the game.

In another highlight for Burks’ already impressive resume, the video shows Burks outrun five Alabama defenders in the secondary for his touchdown.

The broadcasting crew addressed their question about the play clock expiring, and the explanation they received from former referee Gene Steratore was one that may upset Alabama fans.

Steratore informed the broadcast team that the backfield judge looks at the play clock as it expires but allows time for the official’s eyes to find the ball being snapped. If the clock hits zero but the referee doesn’t see the position of the ball exactly at zero, they are instructed to use the state of the play when their eyes look at the center.

Steratore ensured the broadcast that this was normal procedure and that he felt the officials called the play correctly.

Adding to the issues, the replay appeared to show Burks shove off his defender on the deep curl route he ran, leading to calls for offensive pass interference with fans of Alabama.
