4-star DB Austin Ausberry felt Auburn was the best fit
He grew up a big LSU fan. He is an LSU legacy. Baton Rouge is his hometown. But it is another Tigers that Austin Ausberry feels is the best for him and his future.
“It was hard and I will always love LSU, but Auburn is the best fit for me,” Ausberry told On3. “LSU came at me hard over the weekend on my official visit, and they pushed for me to stay home, but I had to do what I felt was best for me. That is Auburn.”
The 6-foot, 196-pound four-star out of University Lab ranked No. 264 in the On3 Consensus committed to Auburn over LSU in the end. The other schools on his list were Alabama, Florida, Michigan, and Notre Dame.
The official visit to Auburn is when the Tigers made their move.
“It felt different at Auburn. I was on my visit and it felt like it was the right place for me. I kept looking at my options, but that visit was big for me.
“The feeling I had there was different. Auburn started to move up my list then. I liked it a lot there.”
Bryan Harsin, Derek Mason, Zac Etheridge, and Travon Reed went in for their in-home visit last week and that is when Ausberry gave them the news.

“They were so excited and they loved it when I told them I was committing. It felt like a big load off my chest when I told them.
“The coaches, the feeling on campus, the defense, and everything about Auburn made them my school. It wasn’t easy, but I know it is the right school.”
The pressure to stay home and follow his father Verge’s footsteps at LSU wasn’t on him by those close to him, but Ausberry knew a lot expected him to play for the hometown school.
He just didn’t feel that was right for him.
“I had to do what was best for me,” Ausberry said. “Auburn is the best school for me. I had different schools on top at different times, but Auburn has been up there for a while now.
“It feels great to commit to Auburn.”
