4-star EDGE Jamonta Waller flips commitment to Auburn Tigers from Florida: 'I love everything about Auburn'
Picayune (Miss.) Picayune Memorial four-star EDGE Jamonta Waller is flipping his commitment to the Auburn Tigers away from Florida, he told On3.
Waller initially pledged to the Gators back in June, but is switching his commitment to the Tigers not long after an October visit to the Plains.
“Florida is a great school, but Auburn never stopped recruiting me,” Waller told On3. “Coach Freeze stayed on contact, he reached out and always let me know he wanted me on his side.”
Waller is now the No. 3 prospect in the Auburn class, one which ranks inside the top 20 nationwide.
“Auburn is the best fit for me all around,” Waller said. “Being a smaller city, it has that hometown vibe.”
Relationships were a major factor for Waller
Waller said his connection with the coaching staff and the chance to play early on that Auburn defense were two main factors in his decision.
“The connection with the staff played a big role in my decision,” Waller said. “Coach Garrett and coach Freeze being from Mississippi and always letting me know them Mississippi boys are different. That went a long way with me.”

As Hugh Freeze works to build Auburn back up to old heights — national title-contending heights — Waller has confidence that he can get there.
“Coach Freeze has done it in the past so he has proven himself to be the man for the job,” Waller said. “I am excited to be a part of the foundation of what coach Freeze is trying to build.”
Waller, the nation’s No. 78 overall prospect and No. 7 edge rusher in the On3 Industry Ranking plans to enroll early at Auburn to prepare for what he hopes to be an impactful freshman season on the Plains.
“I love everything about Auburn,” Waller said. “I’m ready to get there in January, learn from the staff and compete for a big position on the field early.”
