When Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County top-100 wide receiver Ny Carr announced his decommitment from in-state Georgia on Sunday, a number of schools immediately jumped to the forefront of the conversation surrounding his recruitment.

One of those schools was Auburn. When Tigers recruiting insider Jeffrey Lee was asked on On3’s The Inside Scoop football recruiting show if Auburn played a part in Carr’s decision to decommit from the ‘Dawgs, Lee said that the staff there on the Plains would certainly like to think so.

Parlay that with an expected visit to Auburn this weekend for its game against Georgia, and things are once again looking bright on the recruiting trail for Hugh Freeze’s staff.

“I think Auburn would certainly like to think it had a lot to do with Auburn,” Lee said about Carr’s decommitment. “They have been on this kid extremely heavy since they got on campus, really. This was the turn of the calendar year, he came in for an unofficial visit in January. Got great feedback from him. Marcus Davis, even Trovon Reed, have been really heavy in recruiting this kid. Getting Ny back on campus for the Big Cat Weekend back at the end of July and there was some positive feelings there after that visit.

“So they were expecting him to come in this weekend, and when he made that announcement on Sunday — very big news and very positive feelings at Auburn. I think it’s Auburn and Florida State. You cannot discount Florida State, you cannot discount his friendship with Landen Thomas — Landen Thomas of course the five-star tight end who flipped from Georgia to Florida State — teammates, close friends. You can’t rule out Florida State, but I think Auburn certainly had something to do with opening up his recruitment.”

Carr expected to visit for Tigers’ game vs. Georgia

Lee said that Carr’s visit this weekend would be an unofficial visit, and that the staff will likely try to get him back on campus again before signing day in December.

“Auburn certainly expects him, I do as well. I’ve checked with several sources in or around his recruitment,” Lee said. “I know there was a report out there about Colorado, but everything I’ve heard since Sunday was that Auburn expects him on campus this weekend for an unofficial visit — which is going to be big. I think they would like to get him on campus this weekend unofficially, bring him back later in the year maybe even closer to signing day in December for an [official] visit.

“So I think getting him here for an unofficial visit this weekend will be big. They’re playing Georgia, it’s going to be a raucous crowd, there’s going to be a lot of recruits there and of course, Auburn has prioritized him and he will certainly get the red carpet treatment this weekend.”
