LOOK: Auburn baseball celebrates Super Regional berth
Auburn baseball is headed to a Super Regional for the seventh time in program history. The Tigers defeated UCLA by a score of 11-4 on Monday afternoon to clinch their spot as one of the final 16 teams remaining in the 2022 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
Auburn jumped out to a 9-0 lead through the first six innings and never looked back on its way to claiming its first Super Regional berth since 2019. The Tigers later took to Twitter to celebrate their Regional championship.
Sonny DiChiara led the Tigers hitters, going 3-for-4 at the plate to finish with four RBI. Three of his RBI came in the first four innings as he played a crucial part in getting things going. Shortstop Brody Moore added a home run in the fifth inning, as the Tigers finished the contest with 11 total hits.
Mason Barnett got the start at pitcher, doing 5.1 innings of work to pick up the win and improve his season record to 3-2. He recorded 10 strikeouts while allowing just one hit and no runs during that span.

Monday’s victory capped off a perfect Regional performance from the Tigers, who went 3-0 in their games. Their offense was on full display during that time, as they scored a combined 51 runs while hitting five home runs. They will hope to take that momentum with them as they head into Super Regional play.
Auburn is still waiting to find out its Super Regional opponent, though the Tigers know it will be the winner of the Corvallis Regional. Oregon State and Vanderbilt are currently squaring off for that title, with the Beavers clinging to a 4-3 advantage in the bottom of the fifth.
Super Regionals are set to begin either Friday or Saturday depending on when all the Regionals finish. The format for Super Regionals is a best-of-three series with the winner advancing to the College World Series in Omaha.
