Auburn catcher Carter Wright trash talks Georgia pitcher before delivering walk-off to open series
Things got feisty between Auburn and Georgia on Thursday night, late in their baseball matchup. Auburn catcher Carter Wright exchanged some words with Georgia pitcher Kyle Greenler right before he delivered a walk-off walk to win the opening game of the series. The bases were loaded, and the winning run walked home once Wright was walked to first base. Auburn won the game 7-6 in 11 innings.
Check out the exchange between Wright and Greenler here.
Auburn was trailing Georgia 6-3 in the ninth inning, but came back to tie the game up at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth. Not surprisingly, Wright was fired up when his team was able to bring home the win, as you can see from the video above. It was the eighth time this season that the Tigers have pulled off a comeback victory.
Bryson Ware and Caden Green homered in the winning effort for Auburn. Ware also had three RBIs on Thursday.
Before transferring to Auburn, Wright hit .371 his sophomore season at Iowa Western. He drove in 43 runs, the second most on the team. His freshman year at Iowa Western, he batted .353, driving in 27 runs and scoring 34 runs.
The Tigers currently sit at 15-6-1 overall on their 2023 campaign. It was their first SEC win and they’re currently 1-3 in conference play. The Tigers are 12-3-1 at home. They’ll continue their series with Georgia with two more games–one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Auburn is currently on a two-game winning streak, but before that, they lost all three games in their series against Arkansas.
