Auburn DB Tyler Scott plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal
Per Auburn Live’s Justin Hokanson, Auburn cornerback Tyler Scott is expected to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Scott only spent one season with the team and did not see action, ultimately deciding to redshirt.
Tyler Scott played high school football at Pebblebrook (GA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 320 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Scott committed to Auburn on Jan. 7, 2023. He chose the Tigers over Alabama, Auburn, Louisville, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas and USC. Scott initially committed to Arkansas State, but he reopened his recruitment on Oct. 2, 2023.
“They’ve been my favorite school since they offered me,” Scott said of Auburn ahead of the 2023 campaign. “They’ve stayed in contact with me through the process and I felt like Auburn was the school that showed the most love to me and my family.”
Now, Scott will search for a new home in the transfer portal. He will be the 22nd Auburn player to enter the transfer portal during or since the 2023 season. The team has also added 12 players via the portal, earning the No. 8 spot in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
Hugh Freeze prepared for the challenges of the transfer portal
Hugh Freeze expects the chaos. After Auburn’s loss against Alabama in the Iron Bowl this past season, Freeze discussed how he handles the transfer portal.

“I don’t think there’s any possible way any coach can sit here and tell you how he’s going to come up with his 85,” Freeze said. “I’d love to sit here and tell you we’re going to build it with high school kids…I’d love to say that, but this week if I have 10 guys walk in and say they’re going to transfer and I haven’t been recruiting enough high school kids, it’s impossible to say that.
“I have no idea how the makeup of the 85 will look in what we have to replace. Do we have to replace just 22? Do we have to replace 32? None of us know. I think that’s become the biggest challenge for us coaches is how do we even manage the 85.”
Freeze and Co. will have another spot to fill now with Scott moving on from the program. Auburn finished with a 6-7 record in Freeze’s debut campaign at the helm of the program.
