Auburn guard Aden Holloway enters NCAA transfer portal

Auburn guard Aden Holloway has entered the NCAA transfer portal according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Holloway parts ways with the Auburn program following just one lone season with the Tigers after being the top recruit in Bruce Pearl‘s 2023 signing class.

In his true freshman season Holloway earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team after appearing in 35 games and making 26 starts for the Tigers. Averaging 7.3 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.5 rebounds per game in his first year at the college level. Scoring in double-figures on nine occasions last season including the first three games of his college career. Notably scoring a career-high 24 points in a dominant win over Indiana at Holiday Hoopsgiving in Atlanta.

“Aden is a special winner. He has a high basketball IQ and the unique ability to create for himself and others. People just love playing with him,” Pearl said regarding Holloway. 

Holloway is a Charlotte, North Carolina native but played high school hoops at Prolific Prep in Napa (CA) where he was a four-star prospect, ranked the No. 18 overall recruit and the No. 2 combo guard in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The 6-foot-1, 178-pound guard was the sixth-ever McDonald’s All-American to join Auburn in school history and is now the eighth former McDonald’s All-American to enter the transfer portal across the country this offseason. As the former highly touted recruit will likely draw interest from a multitude of programs yet again as he re-opens his recruitment.

Holloway represented the lone freshman to receiving signifiant playing time for an experienced Tigers team last season, ranking fifth on the team in minutes per game with 20.2. Providing athleticism, deep-range shooting, and playmaking for Auburn after ranking first on the team with 52 made three-pointers and second in total assists with 94 on the season.

He scored in 7 points in Auburn’s SEC Tournament final win over Florida, but failed to score in the Tigers’ first round loss in the NCAA Tournament to Yale. As he’ll now exit The Plains and look for a new program to call home going forward in his young collegiate career.
