Auburn has chance to make 'big impression' on top-60 QB Husan Longstreet
Corona (Calif.) Centennial four-star quarterback Husan Longstreet is one of the most coveted signal-callers in the 2025 recruiting class. A decision is upcoming for Longstreet, who plans to announce his commitment on August 14.
Currently, Texas A&M is the overwhelming favorite in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. But, Auburn may have something to say about that before this recruitment is all said and done.
Auburn looking to make ‘big impression’
The Tigers will host Longstreet on campus for an unofficial visit on March 23, his first chance to see Auburn.
Auburn recruiting insider Jeffrey Lee spoke on The Inside Scoop football recruiting show about what the Tigers staff needs to do to eclipse the Aggies.
“Not at all,” Lee said when asked if Texas A&M leading for Longstreet was a surprise. “I think it’s understandable. He’s been there, he’s planning two more visits. He’s never been to Auburn. So if Signing Day were tomorrow, my pick would be Texas A&M — but it’s not.
“. . . [They need to] make a big impression,” Lee added. “They’ve already been building relationships with him from Ben Aigamaua the area recruiter, Kent Austin the quarterbacks coach, Derrick Nix has been involved and Hugh Freeze has been heavily involved. They love this kid, they love how he would fit in their offense. They’ve compared him to Malik Willis — who Hugh Freeze and Kent Austin both had at Liberty — a guy who can beat you with his legs as much as he can with his arm. I think besides Juju Lewis, who everybody in the country wants, I think Husan Longstreet is absolutely a top target if not the top target for Hugh Freeze.
“He’s never been to Auburn. He’s going to bring his family, it’s going to be a big visit for them March 23. A&M obviously has the buzz, understandably so. But Auburn is really, really making up some ground here and closing that gap. They’ve got to use this visit to make a big enough impression to get over that hump that A&M presumably holds.”
Communication will be key
With Longstreet not yet having visited Auburn, there has been little opportunity for that in-person relationship between coaches, player and family to develop. Building that connection and being able to not lose traction in the month between Longstreet’s visit and his commitment will be key for the Auburn staff.

“You’ve got to build that in-person relationship,” Lee said. “They haven’t been able to do that much. Ben Aigamaua has been out there to California, I think he went to visit him in December. But the in-person contact, that’s what’s going to be so key on this visit — getting that face-to-face with mom and dad, then building from that and taking that communication virtually through March and into April and hopefully winning out there at the end.”
Longstreet is in the early stages of a relationship with Freeze, but is excited to meet him in person on his upcoming visit.
“Eager to meet him,” Longstreet told Auburn Live this week. “He seems to really understand the game. He’s a really really nice guy, he’s spiritual-driven, which attracts me. I like what I hear about him. I get his messages and love to read them. So, looking forward to meeting him on the 22nd.”
